Letchworth Has A Thriving Community Hub

6th October 2021 posted in BUYERS TENANTS

One of the best things about life in and around Letchworth Garden City is the sense of community. At Country Properties, we are immensely proud of what is happening in the local area, and the level of support on offer to those who need it most.

We are delighted to learn of a community hub which has opened in the town. The Create Community Network's hub launch was attended by more than 30 people, with dignitaries, local professionals and people who benefit from the club present.

Locals who need support can get it

The hub is set to help people who feel socially disengaged with the community to make their way back in. There will also be support on offer to unemployed people, helping them make their way back into society.

Founder and director Richard McKie spoke to local media, saying; “We’ve long wanted to put ourselves in the heart of the community and after taking a brave leap of faith last year to take on these premises, it was great to finally open our doors and launch this much needed space officially. It was made all the more special for us to share this milestone with our brilliant staff, volunteers and supporters from both the public and business sectors. We now just want to get on with making our wonderful hub what we know it can be - providing support for those in need in our community - particularly working with those impacted by the pandemic.”

A volunteer Rhiannon also spoke about the group, and praised it for turning her life around. Rhiannon said; “I’ve not only achieved so much through their brilliant programmes, but thanks to their nurturing and caring approach, my confidence has soared and I now have a purpose and a sense of value that I’ve not felt in a very long time. I cannot thank them enough!”

Cllr Elizabeth Dennis-Harburg said; “It was an honour to be invited to the opening of this fantastic community asset which will benefit people and business in North Herts and beyond. NHDC is proud to support Create Community in its mission to create futures together and we’re excited to see it continue to change lives for the better.”

Sport brings many people together

Another notable group setting up in Letchworth is the Sporting Memories club, which is set to start on October 19th. This is a club for people aged 50 years or older, and attendees will have a chance to talk about their favourite sporting memories.

Clubs like this are being set up across the country, and they are found to be a great asset in tackling dementia, depression, social isolation and other long-term conditions. The importance of sport in people’s lives cannot be overstated, and this is a great way for people to connect with others and rekindle memories they hold dear.

The Letchworth Sporting Memories Club is scheduled to meet at the Letchworth Corner Sports Club in Whitethorn Lane every Tuesday between 10am and 12pm. The venue allows for easy access, there is plenty of parking, there is no fee to attend and refreshments will be provided for attendees.
