At Country Properties, we believe community events are crucial for helping people to feel happy at home, and part of something bigger than just themselves or their immediate family. Given the events of the past year and a half, our surroundings are ever more important, and this is one of the reasons why Hitchin is such a fantastic place to live.
We are delighted to see the Hitchin Festival is taking place this July, and there is a fantastic range of events, suitable for all ages. Whether you look out for one event or activity, or you want to try as much as you possibly can, we are sure you are going to have a brilliant time over the course of this month.
Free events you don’t need a ticket for
One of the best things about the Hitchin Festival is that there are many free events that you don’t need a ticket for. Therefore, you don’t need to spend money to be entertained, and you don’t need to plan a trip or day out in advance.
If you find yourself at a loose end or other plans change, you can attend these events with a minimum of fuss. Examples of great free events taking place over the course of the Hitchin Festival include:
· Hitchin Scouts Activity Day – Taking place Saturday 10th July in The Market Square
· Herts Visual Arts Big Art Fair – The free day is Sunday 18th July in Hitchin Town Hall
· Hitchin Street Food Monthly – On Thursday 22nd July, the Market Square is the place to be from 5pm onwards

Of course, it might be that you are keen to look forward to a more professional or exclusive event, and there are many big events lined up for this month.
Opera in the Gardens with Eboracum Baroque is an excellent example of a live show taking place over the course of this month. This event takes place on Thursday 8th July. As you’d expect, Benslow Music hosts a fantastic selection of live shows and music attractions this month, and if you are a music lover, you should consider their schedule.
The Market Theatre has a busy schedule this month, with many displays of their piece, The Priory, usually starting at 7pm.
If you are looking for talks or displays on flower displays, you are in luck. On Wednesday 21st July, at Church House, the Hitchin Flower Club hosts a celebration of local colours and flowers.
