Baldock has a great sense of community, and it is no surprise many activities are on offer, bringing people together. It is pleasing to see Baldock library at the heart of the local area, and the venue might be welcoming more residents than usual in the next few weeks.
A total of nine libraries in Hertfordshire will be used as collection points for Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) for their local community, and of course, we are focused on Baldock library.
When did you last visit Baldock library?
Located at Simpson Dr, Baldock SG7 6DH, the library is a tremendous hub for the local community, and if you haven’t been in this or any library in some time, you might be surprised at the evolution of these community hubs.
Baldock library is also accessible, with the following features:
· Wheelchair access
· Public parking available nearby (Disabled parking bays)
· Hearing loop
· Letterbox for out-of-hours returns (dealt with the next open day)
A drive is on to keep the community safe
As we head into the winter months, it is important people take steps to protect themselves, and others. It is recommended that people undertake LFTs to assess their health, and as you would expect, the Baldock library collection point is only for people who are asymptomatic. Anyone who has Covid symptoms should arrange a Covid test.
Executive Member for Education, Libraries and Lifelong Learning Cllr Terry Douris said: “As we approach the winter months, it is vital that communities throughout the county have access to home testing kits to help keep Covid-19 infection rates down. By acting as a Lateral Flow Test collection point, our libraries are playing their part to ensure we all stay well together. This serves as a great reminder of the adaptability and resilience our local libraries and their staff members have shown in the past 18 months to help serve their local communities in times of extreme adversity.”
The collection points will be available during the standard Baldock library opening hours, which are currently stated as:
· Monday 10am–5pm
· Tuesday 10am–5pm
· Wednesday 10am–5pm
· Thursday 10am–6pm
· Friday Closed
· Saturday 9am-1pm
· Sunday Closed
Director of Public Health Jim McManus said: “Lateral flow tests are a vital tool to help us combat the spread of this virus and residents are encouraged to do a test twice a week to do so. I welcome this step to help more people access them and I would strongly encourage residents who are unable to order these tests directly to their homes to collect one. I would also like to thank library staff for the invaluable role they are playing as we continue to tackle Covid-19.”
Jim McManus concluded by saying; “These tests help to rapidly identify asymptomatic people who are at a high likelihood of spreading Covid-19 without any knowledge of doing so. They keep yourself and everyone around you safe, at a time of the year where other illnesses like colds and flu are more prevalent.”
